Paddy has been the Labour MP for Sherwood since 1992, being re-elected in 1997, 2001 and 2005, he currently has a majority of 6,782

Paddy splits his time between working in Parliament at Westminster in London, and in the Constituency. His working week while Parliament sits, tends to entail him working in his local Constituency office in Hucknall on a Monday morning and Friday, and working in Westminster Monday afternoon to Thursday. When Parliament is not sitting he mainly works from his Constituency office.

Over the years he's had many Parliamentary positions and is currently Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Leader of the House of Commons, Jack Straw. Paddy is particularly interested in rural affairs and the countryside, environmental concerns and energy policy. Paddy is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Energy Group and Forestry Group and vice-chair of the Beef and Lamb Group. He is also Chair of the Labour Party Departmental Committee for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
