Cllr Tsimbiridis points to the empty case where all the presents & gifts from our friends at the County’s Polish twin authority
in Poznan used to be.
What’s happened to Labour’s
elderly care programme?
That’s a very good question, and one that we’re not receiving any answers to.
In the last few weeks, both Daleside in Mansfield and Ashcroft in Sutton have been marked forclosure because of health & safety concerns; this is fine – the welfare of the residents must always come first, and any move to ensure that is completely welcomed by us.
However, what isn’t so clear are the proposals for the long-
For now, they are being moved to independent sector care, but one of the constant responses
that we’ve always had from residents and their families is that they like local authority care and
want to stay there. We happen to believe that the local authority has a responsibility to provide

We will continually press them to honour the commitments made under Labour. We want to
make sure that the closures are not going to be used as an excuse to funnel elderly people
into the independent care sector.

Cllr Carroll shows us the empty space

used to be. The display board is to be removed
too, but thankfully the Labour
group have managed to save that.

All major schemes, from Ollerton roundabout to the new library in Mansfield, have been suspended. All while the Tories decide whether or not they want to invest in what is good for the people, or take a massively retrograde step, and dismantle of all Labour’s good work in building on previous successes and laying the new foundations of a modern authority with even more vision and ambition. At the County Council meeting on 24th September, we challenged them on numerous important issues, from adult care provision to investment in libraries, but were met with mere rhetoric, bluster and insults.
Of course, much of their merry-
